Test Facilities
We have built a test facility within the X-ray Astronomy Laboratory located in
the National Space Science and Technology Center
to study the performance of these detectors as they are developed.
The test facility is equipped with computer-controlled data acquisition and
motion control (for scanning across individual pixels and gaps).
The test chamber is equipped with a Be window for detector irradiation by
a finely-collimated X-ray beam system with adjustable beam size down to 5 micron.
A range of Alpha X-ray source energies from 5.9 keV (Fe55) to 60 keV
(Am241) is available.
As part of our analysis, we are developing Monte Carlo simulations of the
detector response under test conditions.
Some details are discussed in this SPIE
paper (postscript).
